Recording a match

Log the score before you hit the showers.

An opponent, a score, a club: Boast asks for nothing else, and already guesses the rest. Here's the path, step by step, and what becomes of the result once it's posted.

The shortest route

  1. 1

    Open the form

Tap New — at the bottom of the screen on mobile, at the top on desktop — then the big Match tile.

  2. 2

    Pick your opponent

Tap Against who? in the scoreboard: the players from your circle you play with most come first. Otherwise, just type a name.

  3. 3

    Enter the score

Set by set, in the boxes of the table. On a phone, a number pad opens and moves to the next box as soon as the number is complete.

  4. 4

    Pick the club, publish

The club where you played is required; date and time are already filled in. The button at the bottom tells you what's missing, then turns into Publish the result.

Sport and format

The form opens on the sport of your last game, marked based on your recent games — otherwise on your favourite sport. Tap the Sport row to change it, and to pick Singles or Doubles: Boast remembers your last format in each sport.

Switching sports clears the score you've entered: the form asks you first.

The players

You take the top row of the board, your opponent the second. For doubles, pick Doubles on the Sport row, or tap the + next to You: the flow then runs through your partner, followed by your two opponents.

At the top of the list, the players in your circle you play this sport with most, with the reason under their name: how many games, and when the last one was. For anyone else, just type their name.

Only players in your circle can be selected. A registered player not in it yet? Invite them from your circle: as soon as they accept, you can record your games together.

Player not on Boast yet?

Add them from the same window: first name, last name and mobile number — in the app, your contacts can fill in the fields. They get a text with the match link, viewable without an account, and they'll find all their games waiting the day they sign up.

The match counts for you like any other. They only show up in the rankings once they sign up.

The score

The table opens with the columns of a standard match in that sport, and + adds more on the right. A column left blank at the end of the table is ignored. When both sides have won the same number of sets, a deciding column appears as a dotted outline.

As you enter the score, the table shows who's ahead: the yellow ball sits next to the name, and the line below keeps count.

The score is free-form: Boast records what was played, it doesn't referee it — house formats included. Just three rules: whole numbers, never a tie in a set, and 99 at most in a box. The winner is whoever wins the most sets.

Every sport has its own name for a round, and the table uses the right word:

The club, the day and the time

Where?

The club is required: that's where the match counts, on the club's page and in its rankings. The ones you play at most come first, along with your number of games, and a verified club carries the Verified tag.

Your usual club often appears right under the line: one tap is enough, but nothing is picked for you.

Near me shows the closest clubs. Yours isn't there yet? Create a new club adds it without losing what you've entered: a name, a sport, an address. A club has only one sport, and the list only shows those matching the sport you picked.

On a club's page, Log an activity here opens the form with that club already filled in.

When?

The date and time are already filled in: today, at the start of the current hour, marked estimated time. Tap the row to pick Today, Yesterday or Another date, and set the time to the nearest quarter hour.

A match is logged after the fact, on any past date — never in the future.

Photos, labels and the story

None of this is required, but it's what makes your match worth reading in the feed.

Up to 4 photos, taken on the spot or picked from your albums. They upload the moment you choose them. If one fails, retry it or remove it: the result goes out without it.

Labels say what the score doesn't. Boast suggests some based on the score. All vibes opens the full list, and you keep 3 at most:

Labels: Heist — Snatched against the run of play.Bloodbath — Over before it started.Masterclass — One player above the rest, from the first point to the last.Comeback — Down, then turned it around.Clutch time — It all came down to the final points.Marathon — It just would not end.Sweatfest — A litre left out on the court.Style points — Lost, but in style.Shipwreck — Nothing went in, nothing went right.Payback — Revenge served.Lucky break — The edge, the net, the wind — not talent.Trash talk — They'll still be talking about it at the bar.

The description is your side of the match. Your opponents will write theirs from the match page — each team gets its own.

Duration is optional too — but it can't be changed once the match is published.

Who will see it

The Privacy row sets who sees the match, and Boast carries over the choice from your last activity. The players in the match always see it.

  • PublicVisible to everyone — counts for the rankings
  • My circleMy circle and theirs — counts for the rankings
  • PrivateMatch participants only — doesn't count toward the rankings

Publish

As long as something's missing, the button at the bottom says so — in page order — and one tap takes you there. Once everything's in place, it turns green.

  1. Choose opponent
  2. Enter the score
  3. Choose club
  4. Publish the result

The match appears in the feed right away, and your opponents are notified.

Once it's posted

Your opponents have 7 days to reject the result if it's wrong. The match then disappears for everyone — from the feed, the stats and the rankings. After that, it's locked in.

Everything else can be tweaked from the match page, via Edit match: the club, the labels, the description, the privacy and the photos.

The score, date and time are locked for good: points are calculated from them the moment the match is recorded.

Frequently asked questions

Who reports the match?

Just one of you: the match shows up for every player, and each team can add its own version. Logged twice, it would count twice — whoever created the duplicate deletes it from its page.

I got the score wrong.

The score can't be edited: it counts towards the rankings as soon as it's saved. To fix it, delete this match and enter it again.

Can I log a match played a long time ago?

Yes, on any past date. Your opponents still have 7 days to decline it: the clock starts when the match is logged, not on the day it was played.

What about a training session?

Pick Training in New: no opponent, no score, on your own or with up to 7 partners. A training session doesn't count towards the rankings and can't be declined.

Log a training session

What about a tournament match?

It's entered on the tournament page, in the match slot — by an organiser, or by the players when the tournament allows it. It can't be declined: report any error to the organiser, who will correct it.

Your turn to play.

Your next match takes seconds to log, and your opponents hear about it straight away.
