Run a tournament
Tournaments, minus the paperwork.
A one-Saturday tournament, a club cup running over several weeks: Boast handles the entries, the draw, the bracket and the scores. Here's how to take it all the way to the final.
Create an accountThe shortest route
Create it
Tap New, then Tournament: a name, a sport, a format. Create tournament opens it to entries right away.
Bring in the players
On its page, Share the sign-up link sends it via WhatsApp or anywhere else, and Add a player lets you sign someone up yourself.
Draw the bracket
Once the minimum is reached, tap Close registration, then Draw the lots to set the bracket or the groups.
Start it
Start the tournament publishes the draw: every score you enter moves it along, all the way to the final.
Choosing the format
Your Format choice decides how it's played.
Knockout bracket
Straight knockout: every win takes you through to the next round, all the way to the final.
Groups
Everyone plays everyone in their group, and the group standings settle it.
Groups then knockout
Groups first, then the top finishers move into a final knockout bracket.
Double elimination
You have to lose twice to go out: a first defeat sends you to the losers' bracket, and the winners of both brackets meet in the final.
With the Knockout bracket format, tick Play a third-place match if you want a third-place match, or Play a consolation bracket, where first-round losers play each other.
Each format requires a minimum number of entrants, shown under the format choice. You can still switch formats from the tournament page, right up until you launch it.
Singles or doubles: in doubles, everyone signs up solo, then the teams are formed. Padel is always played in doubles, squash always in singles.
The club is optional: pick one and it applies to every match, otherwise each score names its own. Same for the dates — but once Registration closes has passed, no one can sign up on their own anymore.
Entries
The entry link is created the first time you share it, and only organisers can see it. Whoever opens it sees the tournament and how many players have entered, then enters with a tap on Count me in. Without an account, they create one, and the link brings them back to the tournament.
Add a player searches your circle first, and one tap enters the player, who gets notified.
Player not on Boast yet?
Add them with their first name, last name and mobile number — on your phone, Pick from my contacts fills it all in at once. They join your circle, and will find their place again by installing Boast with that number.
Until entries close, a player can withdraw on their own (Withdraw), and the cross at the end of a row lets you remove whoever you want.
Close registration appears as soon as the minimum is reached. The list then freezes, and the link takes no one else. Reopen registration opens it again as long as the tournament hasn't started — the draw is cleared, and the next one will count the newcomers.
Teams in doubles
Everyone signs up solo, then pairs are formed in the Teams block. You pair two entrants in one move (Create team), or a player invites another with Propose playing together, who accepts or declines.
The draw waits until everyone has a team, then the pairs are locked in.
The draw, then the kick-off
The first draw follows the sport's Boast rankings: the highest-ranked players become seeds, spread out so they don't meet too early — in a knockout draw, the top two can only meet in the final. A player with no ranking starts at the bottom of the list.
Redraw the bracket builds another one, at random this time, as many times as you like before the start.
Start the tournament only appears once the draw is done, and asks for confirmation: it's the one move you can't undo.
The draw becomes visible to everyone, and it can't be redrawn — that would erase matches already played.
Scores
On any match, Enter the score opens the scoresheet, set by set. You record every match, and if you ticked Players can enter their own results, each player can also record their own — never anyone else's.
Every score becomes a Boast match, public and stamped with the tournament's name: it counts towards its players' rankings, stats and head-to-heads, and shows up in the feed.
A tournament match can't be declined, only corrected. Clear this result removes it, then you enter it again. This is for organisers only. With no shared club, each entry asks for Match club.
The draw moves on its own: every player finds Your next match at the top of the page, and gets notified as soon as their opponent is known.
With the Groups then knockout format, Build the final draw appears once every group is played: the group winners move into the bracket, and the group results are locked in.
Once its last match is recorded — third-place playoff, consolation and repechage included — the tournament ends on its own, and everyone is notified. The winner appears at the top of the bracket, or in group-only format, whoever finishes first in each group.
A paid tournament
Under Entry fee, Entry fee sets a price per entrant. Everyone signs up first, then pays from the tournament page with Pay my entry, before it starts.
The Payments block shows what's been collected and what's still outstanding. On an entrant's row, Waive fee waives their fee, and Refund returns their entry fee in full. Payment is handled by Stripe. Only the organiser can issue a refund.
The start waits until everyone has paid or been waived. And as long as one entrant has paid, the tournament can only be deleted once they've been refunded.
Tournament chat
The conversation brings together entrants and organisers, and no one else; open it with Tournament chat on the tournament page. Press a message to copy or report it, or to delete it: everyone their own, an organiser anyone's.
The cog opens Messages from participants: there you can reserve posting for organisers, or open it back up to everyone. Organisers can always post.
Deleting or cancelling
At the bottom of the entry list, only one of the two is available to you, depending on whether the tournament has started.
Delete tournament
It's gone for good, entries and all. Everyone who signed up will be notified.
Cancel tournament
Its page disappears and cancelling cannot be undone. Matches already played stay on their players' records.
Frequently asked questions
Is a tournament worth more points?
No: every match counts like any other, on the same scale. Points reward your opponent's level, not the round you played.
Understanding the rankingsCan I play in my own tournament?
Yes: Count me in, like everyone else. You're still the organiser, and you keep control of every score.
Can several people organise together?
Yes. Add an organiser hands the tournament to a player in your circle: they enter scores, manage entrants and launch the draw just like you. Anyone can step away via Stop organising this tournament — no one can remove anyone else.
A registered player drops out?
Before entries close, remove them with the cross and sign up their replacement. After that, Reopen registration gives you the list back as long as the tournament hasn't started — the draw will need redoing. Once it has started, there's still Declare a walkover on their slot: their opponent goes through without playing.
How are ties broken in a group?
Wins first. If level, only their head-to-head matches count — wins, then sets and points difference —, then their differences across the whole group, and finally the draw order.
How many players?
Up to 64 entrants per tournament. The minimum depends on the format: the form tells you when you pick one.
Who can see my tournament?
Anyone with the link, even without an account: a tournament page is public, but no search engine indexes it. Its chat stays with the entrants and the organisers.
May the best player win.
A name, a format, a link to share — Boast handles the rest, all the way to the final.
