Notifications

What matters to you, right when it matters.

An invitation, a match logged with you, a smatch: Boast tells you what concerns you, and you choose how.

The shortest route

  1. 1

    Allow them in the app

The first time you log in, your phone asks whether Boast can send you notifications. Say yes: they reach you the second something happens.

  2. 2

    Set them one by one

In Settings, then Account and Notifications, each row has its own toggles: Email, SMS, Push. Tap one to turn it on or off — it's saved right away.

  3. 3

    Everything stays in your inbox

The bell at the top of the screen keeps everything sent your way, even what never made a sound. A yellow dot means something's still waiting to be read.

Four channels

In-app

Everything lands here, always: it's your log, and it can't be turned off.

Push

On your phone, in the app: on for anything that concerns you directly.

Email

Off by default, switched on notification by notification, and only to a verified address.

SMS

For things that need your reply. It reaches everyone, even without the app.

What pings before you touch a thing

Push is on for what concerns you: an invitation, a match or training session logged with you, a smatch, a comment, a badge, a top spot taken or lost.

Two notifications also go out by SMS, because they're waiting on your answer: Invitation received, and Match recorded with you — your only window to decline a match posted in your name, for 7 days.

Email is off everywhere, except for Product news, a few times a year.

If you turned them down

Your phone won't ask again: open its settings, find Boast in the list of apps, then its notifications, and allow them.

In the app, Settings → Account → Notifications shows your phone's status, and its Turn notifications back on button opens those settings for you.

On the web, nothing rings: push only exists in the app.

Never a barrage

One push at most every 5 minutes: beyond that, it stays silent, but it's waiting in your inbox.

Whatever isn't urgent waits its turn: rankings news lands the next day at 9, and the reminder about players to add comes between 9 and 21.

Your first few weeks

During your first 28 days, at most 6 messages guide you, one per step, with at least 2 days between two. If the app can't reach you, a text can take over, 2 times at most.

The Don't show again cross on the First steps card, at the top of the feed, stops them too.

Emails

Emails only go to a verified address: add yours in Account. Every email carries a Unsubscribe from these emails link: it stops that type of email, and only that one.

Frequently asked questions

I'm not getting anything — why?

Check three things: that you're in the app — the website pushes nothing —, that your phone allows Boast, and that the Push toggle for that notification is on. The settings page tells you what's missing on your phone.

Why did I get a text message?

Because someone was waiting on you: a circle invitation, or a match posted in your name. And, during your first few weeks, whenever the app couldn't reach you.

How do I turn everything off?

Push can be switched off in one go from your phone settings; email and SMS, notification by notification, or via the link in each email. Your inbox stays put either way: it's your log.

Do I get notified about my own actions?

Never: Boast won't tell you what you just did. And two players who have blocked each other stop getting any notifications about one another.

What about a managed player with no account?

Their notifications land with you, prefixed by their first name in brackets, and follow your own settings. Never by SMS.

Set them once.

Two minutes is all it takes: what matters reaches you, the rest waits in the inbox.
